Meniscal repair: arthroscopic image

The photo show a meniscus repair: a suture of the lateral meniscus. Meniscus repair is a very good surgical procedure that allows preservation of the totality of the meniscus. Conservation of the meniscus is very important in younger sportsmen, because a meniscectomy (ablation of the meniscus) will evolve into an osteoarthritis of the knee. It is not proven indisputably that meniscus repair prevents an arthrosic evolution; one line of arguments, however, predicts it. It should also be pointed out that sometimes meniscus repair (complex injury, not enough peripheral , etc. ...) is not always attainable.
