Image #1 - X-ray is normal: the bone (showing white on the x-ray) of the kneecap and the femur is separated by the cartilage Ca (black on x-ray).
Image #2 - X-ray shows a patellar knee arthritis: the image clearly shows the absence of cartilage , in particular in its external part, (pinching between the femur and the kneecap). This is a patellar knee osteoarthritis, and is responsible for pain when climbing staircases because the bone of the femur "rubs" against that of the kneecap.
