total knee replacement : back to arthritis

Total knee replacement

The arrow indicates the damaged cartilage, source of the pains, on the flat part of the external compartment.

The femur (fem) and the tibia (tib) are cut with an oscillating saw to prepare them for the prosthetic. The kneecap (belch) is luxated during a total prosthesis. It should be noted that the tibia is luxated for the tibiale cut .

Final result: here, the prosthesis has been cemented to the bone. The photo clearly shows the metal femoral part and the polyethylene tibiale component (a very hard, high density, plastic).
