patellar knee arthritis

 Patellar knee arthritis: x-rays

patellar knee arthritis

patellar knee arthritis

The left x-ray is normal: the bone (showing white on the x-ray) of the kneecap and the femur is separated by the cartilage Ca (black on x-ray). The x-ray on the right-hand side shows a patellar knee arthritis: the image clearly shows  the absence of cartilage , in particular in its external part, (pinching between the femur and the kneecap). This is a patellar knee  osteoarthritis, and  is responsible for pain when climbing staircases because the bone of the femur "rubs" against that of the kneecap.
