osteochondral graft: back to arthritis

Osteochondral graft

disseccans osteochondritis ...)

This image shows the surgical technique called "mosaicplasty": the osteo-cartilage or osteochondral graft fills the gap, typical of an osteochondritis dissecans. In this case, several "carrot" cylinders, made up of bone covered with cartilage, are necessary to fill the "hole". This technique (which can also be performed in arthroscopy) has the advantage of being achievable in only one operation: on the other hand the graft of cartilage which utilizes cartilaginous cells, requires two surgical procedures (removal of the cells in the first and grafting in the second operation) .
