This image shows a cartilage graft: it is an osteochondral "cylinder" or "carrot" covered on the top by cartilage taken from the trochlea of the knee (in a very peripheral zone). The arrow indicates the white cartilage. This surgical technique called "mosaicplasty" provides a method of making good a loss of osteochondral substance by performing a surgical "mosaic" of grafts.
