Arthroscopic meniscal repair.
|
The photo show a suture of the lateral meniscus. Meniscal repair is a very good surgical procedure that allows preservation of the totality of the meniscus. Conservation of the meniscus is very important in younger sportsmen, because a meniscectomy (ablation of the meniscus) will evolve into an osteoarthritis of the knee. It is not proven indisputably that meniscal repair prevents an arthrosic evolution; one line of arguments, however, predicts it. It should also be pointed out that sometimes meniscal repair (complex injury, not enough peripheral , etc. ...) is not always attainable. |
