knee rehabilitation

Knee rehabilitation

After anterior cruciate ligament graft using  the central third of the patellar tendon secured with two interference screws  (in absence of a meniscal repair).

(On the website you can find indications of a general nature: it is in any case necessary to follow " to the letter" the indications of your orthopaedic surgeon.)

1 Month after surgery you can practise:

  • Exercise bike (without resistance)
  • Stepper (staircase simulator) without resistance
  • Swimming if wound healing allows it (breaststroke is not advised)

2 Months after surgery :

  • Begin  running (in the form of gentle jogging) without sudden stops, pivots, changes of direction  and avoiding irregular ground...
  • Swimming
  • Bicycle and exercise bike
  • Proprioceptive rehabilitation

3-4 Months after surgery :

  • Same activities as the second month are gradually intensified.
  • Isokinetic exercises  are discouraged during this time.. The patient must be aware of tiredness or small tendon pains and accordingly keep to lower workloads .

5-6 Months after surgery :

  • Return to sport activities.
