An elbow arthroscopy is carried out with the patient in a lateral position (this is the same position used during a total hip replacement with a posterior approach) for patient comfort; general anesthesia is recommended. On the skin the bony prominences can be utilised to facilitate benchmarks and the introduction of various instruments.
