Hyper ligamentous laxity is a physiological condition characterized by the presence of ligaments which are a little too "relaxed". A test to see the laxity of a patient is to ask him or her to touch the thumb with the back of the hand (photo 1). This is not pathological, however, following a trauma, it can aggravate the symptoms of instability. There are certain sports like gymnastics, which can, over time and through repeated stretching exercises, continue to keep the same laxity as usual in a child. This sometimes can lead to diseases such as spondilolyse or spondilolystesis.
